A Bolting Experience

Our long awaited mission nurse came Saturday.  She will relieve Sister Cleveland of all the medical issues in the mission.  Stan has worked hard to get everything needed to set her apartment up.  Friday and Saturday we assembled her bed, table and chairs.  With the help of Sisters Tagg and Warner, we organized the kitchen and got the apartment perfect for Sister Steadman's arrival.

We came home, got cleaned up and were on our way out to celebrate Elder Sorenson's birthday.  He is one of the Assistants to the President and we were going out to dinner.  Stan was already warming up the car while I turned off lights and grabbed my coat.  I locked the door and tried to close it, but it wouldn't close!  I tried everything I could but the latch bolt would not slip in to close the door! We couldn't very well leave with the door open, so we decided to fix it.  We took the doorknob apart.  This was not an easy task since the latch bolt needs to go in to release the spindle.  Anyway, with the help of a screwdriver and hammer, we destroyed the thing and got it out.  We went to Ace and bought a new one and installed it.

The purpose of this story is to point out yet another example of the Lord's tender mercies.  First, we happened to have the office toolbox at the apartment that weekend.  Second, it happened before the stores closed.  Most importantly, it froze up when the door was open instead of closed.  Can you imagine us climbing out our bedroom window?  Really!

Well, we missed dinner that night, but we had a fun adventure!
