Where's All the Food?

It was our turn to clean the Mission Office Saturday and while we were there, Elder Hodges came in.  He told us that church in Indianapolis was cancelled on Sunday because of the storm.  Wow!  That was a first for us.  We went to the grocery store on the way home and noticed that a lot of the shelves needed to be stocked.  Then we got to the produce area and was shocked to find everything gone!

No fresh fruits or vegetables

Being a little dense, we asked a clerk why the shelves were empty.  He explained that people were stocking up because of the storm.  Well, we bought much more than we planned.  It's a good thing too, because we had both sets of sister missionaries over for dinner since they couldn't drive to their dinner appointments.

It snowed all day and night Sunday.  Monday morning we set off for the office 5 miles away and counted only 10 cars on the road.  It was sooo cold!  We learned that it was a red day, everything was closed including schools, government offices, UPS and FedEx. Our days Monday and Tuesday were very quiet except the car czar Elder Hodges.  The missionaries had 5 accidents!  Most were inexperienced drivers trying to maneuver on black ice.  We even had a missionary try to scrape the snow off the car with a snow shovel!  Not good for the windshield not to mention the paint!

 It was -9 degrees at 7:53 in the morning

If we were not serving a mission, we would be in Hawaii right now.  We would be sitting on the warm beach reading or eating shaved ice.  Here in freezing Indianapolis we live in a little 2-bedroom apartment with very few belongings, but we love it!  Our life is simple but so rewarding.  We wouldn't trade this for anything!
